An outstanding pianist, Kanae Koshi has been a very active
performer extensively throughout her native Japan and the
United States. The New York Sun has described her performance
as "her tones were always forceful and tasteful, arresting
and grandiloquent. Her resultant power belied her size and
reminded of that extremely strong-handed Russian school of
pianism and past immortals like Emil Gilels, Lazar Berman,
and Sviatoslav Richter."
She has given her New York Debut Recital at Weill Recital Hall,
Carnegie Hall in 2005 as a winner of the Artist International
Audition. In addition, Ms. Koshi has given numerous concerts
throughout Japan and the United States as a soloist, recitalist
and a chamber musician. She also gave a concert at Weill Recital
Hall, Carnegie Hall as a winner of the Japanese American
Association Music Scholarship Awards in 2002. She also has
performed in such prestigious venues including Steinway Hall,
Donnell Library Concert Series, The National Arts Club, Paul
Hall of The Juilliard School, and The Second Presbyterian
Church in Manhattan. She has given various concerts as a
Juilliard Artist in Maiden Lane Concert Series, sponsored
by the Juilliard School.
In Japan, she has recently performed Beethoven’s Piano
Concerto No.5 "Emperor" with the Nagano Symphony Orchestra
under Maestro Junya Fujii. She was invited as a guest concert
artist at the Nagano-Aspen Music Festival in Japan in 2001.
Also, Ms.Koshi has also performed in the numerous concert
series such as "The Beethoven Piano Sonata Cycle",
"Schumann Cycle" and "The Mozart Piano Sonata Cycle" in Japan.
She also has been awarded top prizes in numerous competitions,
including the Japanese American Association Music Scholarship
Awards, All Japan Student Music Competition, Japan Piano
eachers Association Piano Audition, The French Music Competition,
and the Nagano-Aspen Music Festival in Japan.
A native of Japan, Kanae Koshi began her piano studies at the
age of three. She received her Bachelor’s degree from The
Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan studying with Yoriko Kojima.
She continued her studies at The Juilliard School, where she
completed the Advanced Certificate degree under Joseph Kalichstein.
Ms. Koshi continued her education at Mannes College of Music where
she received her Master’s degree under Diane Walsh. She studied
chamber music with Jacob Lateiner, Ann Setzer and Madeleine Shapiro.
Ms. Koshi was a recipient of a full scholarship at The Aspen Music
Festival where she studied with Herbert Stessin and Rita Sloan.
She participated in master classes of such distinguished artists
as Claude Frank, Charles Rosen, Georgy Sebok, Herbert Stessin,
Mikhail Voskressensky, Shigeo Neriki, Germaine Mounier, and
E.Picht-Axenfeld.
For the 2007-2008 season, Ms.Koshi will be giving solo recitals
and chamber music concerts throughout Japan and the New York
metropolitan area. The highlights for the upcoming concert
will be performing Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.1 as a soloist
at the Obuse International Music Festival in Japan. Kanae Koshi’s
